Research Paper AristotleAristotle (b. 384 - d. 322 BC), was a Greekphilosopher, logician, and scientist. Along with his teacherPlato, Aristotle is generally regarded as one of the mostinfluential ancient thinkers in a number of philosophicalfields, including political theory. Aristotles writingreflects his time, background and beliefs.Aristotle was born at Stagira, in Macedonia. Hisfather, Nichomacus, was the personal physician to the Kingof Macedonia, Amyntas. At the age of seventeen, Aristotle go forth for A consequentlys to study at Platos Academy. He studied atthe Academy for or so twenty years, up until Platos death. Platos death move Aristotle to a city in Asia Minor, calledAssos, where his friend, Hermias was ruler(Encarta). It wasin Assos where Aristotle met, Pythias, who is described aseither a niece or daughter of Hermias, who Aristotle marriedafter the murder of Hermias, by the Persians. Aristotle thenwent to Pella, the capitol of Macedonia, where he became thetutor for the kings son, Alexander, who later becameAlexander the Great. When Alexander became King, Aristotlewent to Athens where he began to lecture at the Lyceum. Helectured while walking about in one of its covered walkways,earning him the nickname Peripatetic, which means walkingabout. Aristotle lectured and directed the Lyceum for twelveyears, producing during this time the lecture notes whichnow form his works. wholly a small amount of Aristotles workshave survived. The belles-lettres which did survive likeMetaphysics,. which were his writings on the nature,scope, and properties of being and Physics, his writingson astronomy, meteorology, plants, and animals, thesewritings have changed the way we think and live. Aristotles works encompassed all the major areas ofthought logic, science, metaphysics, ethics, and politics.He developed a new, non-Platonic theory of form, created asystem of deductive reasoning for universal and existentialstatements, produced a theory of the cosmos, matt er, life,and mind, and theorized about the relationship betweenethics and politics and the nature of the good life(YoungStudents Encyclopedia). His system rival Platos for thenext 2000 years.Aristotle was a firm believer that school of thought came fromwonder, and that knowledge came from experience. He had awealth of knowledge, from many experience if he was correctabout philosophy coming from wonder, he would have had towonder quite a bit.
